Enjoying the Full-Time RV Life
We are Jim & Carole Rector. In the years 2010-2018 we visited CA from our home in TX in the month of August every year. In 2018 when we arrived back in TX and got off the plane the heat and humidity hit us like a wall! At that time, we started investigating moving to an area, like CA that would either be cooler and/or have less humidity. Since we lived in a no income tax state (TX) we quickly ruled out CA as a place to relocate. We considered Carson City, NV as a possibility as NV is a no income tax state and the weather there was dry and reasonably warm in the winter. However, we did not know anyone there and our closest relative would be three hours away. How often would we visit?
For background, Jim has not yet retired and was working remotely years before the vid chaos; Carole is a “retired” homeschooling mom and grandma to our four children and twelve grandchildren spread out over three states (TX, CA, OR); and Jim has his dad and a sibling living in western NY. The main purpose, “intention,” of our travels is to visit each of these locations at least once a year.
In 2019 we stumbled upon several YouTube videos centered on full time RV living. We got the bug! What if we got an RV that would allow us to live comfortably full time on the road? What if we could leave TX in the spring and head north for the summer and fall? What if we could visit family and see all the sights our country has to offer? By November 2020 we had a Super C motor home and started our full time RV lifestyle in southeast Texas. In March of 2021 we had sold our “sticks and bricks” home after downsizing to mostly just what we could take with us. Since that time, we’ve visited 26 states and have seen all our family multiple times.
Follow us as we continue our adventure. We will add posts about choosing our RV(s), accessories we’ve found and use, places we’ve seen that we’d probably have never seen except for this lifestyle, and many other topics. We plan on expanding to a YouTube vLog going forward too!
